Nice and low key with a drink and some nibbles at the beginning of the week!
If you’ve not come to a network meeting I really must emphasise that it’s very very informal and friendly so please come because we really try to make the meetings as useful as possible.
This is scheduled to be a pretty busy session so please arrive before 6 to pick up your drink and nibbles.
PLEASE can you RSVP and let us know that you'll be coming as we need to know numbers.
Monday 11 May 2009 at 5.30pm at Enterprise House
The network has (we are pretty sure) again managed to secure enough funds so that we can put off the day when we need to charge you an annual subscription. We also have funds to allow us to do some recruitment and some support for members.
We need your input at this meeting as we want to discuss how we see the current state of the economy affecting our businesses. We want to find out:
How your business is being affected
How you see the future in both the long and short term
We are also looking at a variety of ways in which we might support each other during this time. We have a small amount of money to spend on providing support to members of the Network. Not a lot and that’s why we want to spend it wisely. We need your input here so please come to the meeting.
We also have a small amount of money to spend on marketing the Network in the area so that we have a larger membership. This means that we can forward useful information to more people and represent the area more widely. I have one or two ideas about how we might achieve this but I’d also like your ideas.
So please come along, have a drink, have a chat, tell us how you feel and give us all a bit of guidance. As usual the Network meeting will be very informal so you don’t need to dress up or talk a lot!
Monday 26th January 2009 from 5.30pm at Enterprise House
At 5.45pm Geoff Grimes will talk to us about the The Shropshire Hills Buy Local Be Sustainable scheme and why we should join - it looks like a very promising scheme particularly if you are in the hospitality, local produce or retail sector. However, it looks like it could work for any of us that target our markets services for local consumption. Geoff has written a few more notes below
Hope to see you at the meeting - the usual hospitality will be in place!

We have arranged a meeting of the Business Network on Monday 2nd June 2008 at Enterprise House. The speaker will be John Dee, an advisor from Business Link. If you have plans and aspirations for your business in the near future I'd urge you to attend. Whether you are a new or an established business there will be something to interest you. John will talk about the support that Business Link can offer us - whether it's just a 2 hour consultation or something more long-term. We hope that many of you will take up the offer of a short consultation and we hope to be arranging these at Enterprise House in the near future. I believe that if you attend you'll go away with one REALLY USEFUL lead to follow up. The talk will start at 5.45pm and, as usual, there will be refreshments. I do hope that you can come. If you have not come to a meeting before they are very informal - it's a bit like going to the pub!

The Better Welcome Project has proposed improvements to the access from the Auction Yard Car Park and Church Street (via the lane between The Kings Head and Pugh's Butchery). Please read the report better-welcome-project-final-report.pdf and comment direct to Jane Carroll (jane@oldtime.co.uk). This could represent a fairly significant improvement to a rather shabby bit of the Town. Please support.
The Business Network is now affiliated to the Shroshire Chamber. Mike & Simon Pearson (Tersus ltd) attended a lunch and presentation at Telford Golf Club on 22 February 2008 (pity really as we don't play golf!). The benefits of this liaison will become apparent in the near future. The Chamber are offerring all affiliated networks and chambers funds to help with running and towards projects that each group identifies as important.

Next meeting is 30th January 2008 @ Enterprise House. Main speaker is Dave Green from the Wastless Society. He'll give the group 10 top tips for running a greener business. We'll also briefly discuss a few issues relating to our involvement with the Shropshire Chamber.

On 29th October 5.30 - 6.30 there will be a meeting of the network. Lisa Bedford (SSDC) will give us a presentation on the Retail Study that was done throughout South Shropshire last year. I went to a similar presentation at Craven Arms and found it most interesting - interestingly no-one at that meeting was a retailer but we all found it very revealing! Also, you'll get the chance to to view and put your card onto the new bishopscastle.biz boards in the lobby at Enterprise House. We have space for about 80 and in the 10 days we have filled about 25%. If you had already entered your info onto the website prior to Aug 1st we will have produced a card for you - if you have done it any later then you'll need to do your own - the cards must be A6 (landscape) and on card. The boards are getting a lot of interest from our (average) 200 visits a day and so it's a great place to promote your business to the local population.

The Network met on Monday 11th June, 5.30pm @ Enterprise House and looked at the shropshire.biz and the bishopscastle.biz websites. Presentation by Andy Corbett of PerfectArc to show the business search features of the shrop.biz site and how this would interact with the bishopscatle.biz site.
